Fayzah’s TANGO Biography
Fayzah was the first tango partner of Homer Ladas. She credits him as a big inspiration throughout the years. . They took their first tango class together in 1997. Since then Fayzah has studied with Diego Di Falco, Geraldine Rojas, Quillermina Quiroga, Analía Morales y Gabriel Ponce, Chicho, Horacio Godoy, Jorge Torres, and many other renouned teachers from the US, Argentina, and Europe. While in Buenos Aires Fayzah studied Ensenario (stage Tango) intensively, as well as Tango salon. In 2003 Fayzah co-founded Tango Puerto Rico and started teaching tango classes in Santurce, PR, with Alisa Schlesinger from Los Angeles. Their class curriculum emphasized developing a strong partner connection, and good body mechanics. Her grandfather was Argentine, and through listening to tango music she feels a connection to some of her ancestors. Since her move to NYC around 2006, Fayzah has stayed active in tango, social dancing, hosting Tango X (exploration) Sessions at DNA dance studio, and performing. She developed her own solo tango fusion, combining elements of dance styles from North Africa, Arabia, India, & Spanish Flamenco, with Argentine Tango. She was invited to perform and teach workshops at Triangulo Studio for Argentine Tango in NYC, after taking her performance on tour in the United States and Canada. Teaching credits also include being on staff at Dardo Galleto Studios in NYC. Fayzah was cast as a tango dancer in several productions of Neville Dance Theaters “Nutcracker” and “Memento Muerto”, and has performed at the gala for the Newark Symphony, and several theater shows and corporate functions in the NYC area. Some of her favorite Tango composers are Enrique Rodríguez and Lucio Demare.
“Fayzah was my first tango partner when I started taking tango classes in 1997. Back then, she was already an experienced and trained dancer in other styles and helped to accelerate my own learning curve. Today, Fayzah is a power house of dance knowledge and ability with years of multi-dance form and cross-teaching experience. With this background, she’s able to convey tango information in a clear, confident, and fun way. Plus, it’s always a great pleasure when I get a chance to connect and social dance with her as contemporaries in tango.”
