Fayzah is best known for her electric Tribal-Fusion dance style and is the innovator of Tango-Bellydance fusion. She is an acclaimed international performer & instructor. Her dance is characterized by a powerful fluidity and musicality, precise technique and muscle control, smooth waves, crisp hits, & isolations.
Fayzah holds a teaching certificate in Middle Eastern Dance Arts.
She began her studies in Arizona & California after falling in love with music from North Africa, and surrounding countries. She has studied many classical and folkloric styles from different countries & regions with many distinguished teachers, as well as Barratanatyam Indian dance, and Tribal. She also had the opportunity to study in Egypt where she learned Nubian dances in Aswan. She has extensive experience performing many styles.
Fayzah is a big advocate of finger cymbals, through which she has pushed boundaries in creativity & rhythm in some of her performances. Her experience as a DJ also lends to her musicality.
Upon moving to NYC, Fayzah danced & toured with Bellyqueen Dance Company as a principle dancer for several years.
She is currently a member of Neville Dance Theater company; ballet & contemporary with ethnic innovation.
Fayzah put together a troupe called the Aurea Dancers (comprised of some of her students), who are featured in the “Tarot Bellydance” DVD, on the World Dance NY label.
Her solo work is featured in the “Fantasy Bellydance” DVD, “Tarot Bellydance” DVD (World Dance New York), “Bellyqueen: The Bellydance Experience” DVD (Hollywood Music Center), & The “Memento Muerto” DVDs (NDT).
Her experience as an instructor includes teaching trance dances in the rain forest as part of a healing retreat, & co founding the Triple Treat Workshop series along with Funmilayo. Fayzah is often invited to teach & perform in dance communitites worldwide, & has created the instructional DVDs; ‘Fluid Tribal’, & ‘Android Goddess’.
