For it to be DANCE, listening to the music is a requirement. Dance is also a practice and discipline, which involves dedication, patience, training, honing technique, and time. Just like martial arts. Just like a musician learning and practicing an instrument. When musicians "jam" together, they aim to be in tune, harmonize together, be in the same key, connect, listen.. otherwise it's not music, it's noise. And music is literally the reason dance exists. There are many types of movement (clowning, miming, emotional purging movement, jerking, flailing, playing around, warming up before sports or physical activity, wiggling, cartwheels, falling down on purpose, spinning around out of joy, outward expressive movement, letting your body lead and gliding around a room, jumping up and down, moving like an animal, trance, mimicking, being embodied and expressing what you feel, moving around looking people in the eyes and connecting, etc.) This is MOVEMENT, and can absolutely be transformational, have health benefits, and can support people in feeling better in their bodies and overcoming blocks. Some practices have gotten mislabeled and there are some misunderstandings in the wellness community and some spiritual circles, so as a bridge to both worlds, here it is 🙏💃🧘🏽♀️🤸♂️ Heal yourself and your body, express yourself, and respect the arts. #ridingthebeat #listeningtomusic #connection #opening #dancetotherhythm #dancetothemusic
